Alter Ego (Panastudio Prod. 2000) was born to fulfil the need of merging and sharing the different musical potpourri that have influenced Carlo throughout his professional career and his encounters with musicians of different cultures and nationalities. The CD represents a very well mixed musical combination and the appearance of various guest musicians comes as a natural consequence. We have Walter Calloni, Rocco Salzano and Gaetano Fasano at the drums, Stefano Cerri, Dario Deidda, Joe De Marco and Nello Giudice at the bass, Alfonso Deidda, Julian Mazzariello, Enzo De Angelis and Antonio De Luise at the keyboards and Stefano Giuliano at sax alto .

Interview on " Il Nuovo Mezzogiorno "
(June 1 st 2000):
…..Jazz-Rock, a difficult and compelling genre to play because of its full an round harmonies and the high risk of just imitating the great protagonists of the musical scene. Alter Ego sounds like a new product with its own musical independence and at the same time enriched with pleasant and original sounds. It is a record that goes beyond the old fashioned composing harmonies and flows through newer composing phases.

Review AXE N.48 October 2000: …with his “Alter Ego” Carlo Fimiani earns the status of a high class musician among the most promising artists of the Italian musical scene, his playing expresses impressive technical skills accompanied by undoubtful good taste.

Carlo Fimiani, previous guitarist for Sister Sledge and Hata and subsequently partner with Tullio De Piscopo, is one of the most talented musician on the national jazz-rock scene. As a guitarist gifted with an astounding and powerful technique, Carlo Fimiani shows in his first solo CD a strong melodic and composing taste. All composition are original and arranged by Fimiani himself. They show a big differentiation of genres. You can listen through the oriental rhythm in 5/8 of “Dream”, the hard ground breaking in “FunK Cannon” (with a powerful bass line) and “Maple Top”, where the guitar’s distorted sound melts wonderfully with the groove and the stability of Stefano Cerri and Walter Calloni sounds.

The CD also offers a more relaxed sound full of atmosphere, as the melodies of “3mm, the fascinating downbeat sound of “Alter Ego” or the wonderful acoustic in “Plenilunio” for guitar only.
